First Women's Class

Last night I did John's Kickboxing class.  :-T  I always feel like I'm in shitty shape when I do that class.  We basically did a very similar workout to the Monday workout.  The only thing that was different was that my mom was over on the eliptical machine working out like a mad woman.  She just signed up for the fitness challenge that we have going on at the gym right now.  I am excited that my mom will be at the gym with us.  It's nice to have more family members up there.  The burn-out, which is the last bit we always do at the end of kickboxing was rough.  We had to do 100 punches, any combos, 100 kicks and 100 push-ups.

While we were doing the last part of the kickboxing class, I had the two students who showed up for the women's class get started on the warm up.  I had them do 20 sets of stairs, with the hall way.  I think that might have been a bit much, upon further reflection, which means after talking to Noe.

We basically only worked on basic positions for most of the class then we did the most basic armbar from guard.  We started off by doing shrimps.  I really wanted to make sure they got the details of the shrimp down because it seems like no matter where I have gone, I always see tons of people doing shrimps with pretty bad form.  I think it is one of those things that people kind of over look because it is so basic but that is precisely the reason I think it is so important.  It is the basis for a number of escapes and it helps develop the hip movement necessary for so many positions.

Anyway, after we did shrimps, we worked on just shrimping with someone in your guard and then the same thing but with a safe get up.  I mostly wanted them to get comfy with the feeling of being in someone's guard, with good posture, and having someone in their guard.  We moved on to the arm bar after drilling variations of shrimping movements and getting up.  We ended up working on the arm bar for about 35 - 40 min., with the two women just going back and forth doing arm bars on each other and on me.  We initially planned on the class  going from 7 - 8 but I am thinking now that we might end up going until 8:30.  We'll play it by ear and see how the students like it.

I started a meet up group for the women's class.  We are planning on making some fliers, I just have to find the time.  Until then Facebook, face to face, word of mouth, and this meet up group are going to have to do.

Here's a link to the meet up group.  Join the group if you want  :-)
