3 Day Weekend

I went to Wisconsin for a Pow Wow over the Memorial Day weekend.  We left on Friday night and didn't get in to Black River Falls until Sat. morn. at about 5 am.  My brother and I were going to try to do a 5K run on Sat morning but we just couldn't bring ourselves to get up at 8 am.  So I basically ate like shit the rest of the weekend.  Haha.

I got to meet a dude from my tribe, who does MMA and has won a couple of belts with organizations up in Wisconsin.  It sounds like he is movin on up.  His name is Eddie Larrea.  I'll keep my eyes peeled for info about him and keep you updated.

Yesterday, Tues., was the first time I had worked out since last week.  I couldn't really do anything over the weekend because my knee was bothering me.  I guess I lifted weights for a little while in the hotel gym, just upper body.

I got done really early with my bar review class yesterday so I was able to go to the noon class at the studio.  We mostly rolled with Erin, her fight is on Fri. night.  It was good we did worst case scenario drills with her.  We took the mount and she had to escape.  I was trying to work on getting into technical mount when the person bucks and almost goes all the way to their side but I couldn't quite get it.  I need to continue to figure out the smaller details of that movement, I'm almost there.  At the end of the class we just had to do 100 kicks with each leg on the bag to finish up.

I went to study for 3 hours and then headed back to the gym for the night class.  I love being able to train a bunch.  Although my body is pretty sore.  Anyway, Tues. night class is traditional Judo/Tae Kwon Do class.  We have mostly just been doing Judo lately, which I am happy about.  We worked on a sacrifice take down set up.  It is a two handed sleeve grab then drag.  As the person moves to square up you go right into a sacrifice throw and end up in kesa gatame.  This is the second time we have worked it so I am starting to kind of get comfortable with it.  We worked a few different subs from the kesa and then did some randori, which is the term for sparring or free-style practice.  It was good, I got to go with Noe first.  Then I went with a teenage boy who is about my size.  Finally, I went with Kevin, he's one of the black belts.  I wasn't able to take him down, which doesn't surprise me.  We went twice.  That took it out of me and I was really tired by the time the next class started.

The next class is a BJJ fundamentals class that a blue belt, Shaun, teaches.  I like going to that class because we drill for a long time.  We worked on scissor sweeps.  Then I rolled two times and called it quits.

Tonight will be our first all female martial arts class.  I am hoping at least a few people show up.   We are working on getting the website updated with the class info but here's a link with Noe and I, and some bio info.
